Glad to Be Living in Occidental...
How great is our little town! Gardens are bountiful. School is in session. Gonella's just got a fresh coat of paint. The Hardware Store is getting painted too. Will the Mural go back up? Processions of bicycle riders, motorcycles, sports cars, and vintage automobiles have been driving through. The Tennis Courts are well used. The YMCA now offers Hula Hoop Sessions, along with open gym for basketball, volleyball, and soccer. The OCA has been a welcome addition with lots of events and entertainment going on at Harmony Village. The Bohemian Farmer's Market is bustling on Friday evenings ...a great place to socialize and enjoy some gourmet delights, while shopping.
If you want to get involved more in the community there are many opportunities. The Occidental Community Council meets on the third Saturday at 10:30am each month at the Community Center. Come help us plan our annual fundraiser and spend the proceeds on worthy projects. KOWS.fm, our local radio station, has program slots available; and several talk show hosts welcome visitors. The Occidental Community Choir has try-outs every year. The OCA - Occidental Center for the Arts is a great non-profit. The OAEC - Occidental Arts and Ecology Center - offers Volunteer Days on Wednesdays if you want to play in a beautiful garden. And the OCSD - Occidental Community Services District - hold public meetings regarding the local water and fire departments on the third Tuesday each month. The OEP - Occidental Emergency Preparedness team is available for Map Your Neighborhood gatherings and other resources. So there are lots of civic minded projects to join, if you are so inclined. It takes a village.......
The OCC Events Calendar (link below) has information about concerts, the farmers markets, school performances and offerings, as well as pancake breakfasts and other benefits and classes put on by us locals.
