Annual Events

Occidental Farmer’s Market
Thursdays - May thru October. 4pm to 8pm.

​Bellies and baskets full of nutritious, delicious goods… feet and voices happily exhausted from dancing and chatting with friends… kids sticky with bee pollen and mushroom jerky. A joyful exuberance of the seasonal rhythms of the Occidental community - celebrating and relishing in the abundant offerings of the cycles.

OCA Fools Day Parade
Costume up and come celebrate Spring with silliness at this family-friendly free, annual community event with the village of Occidental where we celebrate all things whacky. Frolic with the locals as we parade foolishly through town, full of West County whimsy, led by the Hubbub Club marching band, winding our silly way to Occidental Center for the Arts  for extreme frivolity and fun!

OVFD Fireman's BBQ

Admission is Free, Family Friendly, Games, Raffles, Music & dancing too!.  Every July! The Occidental Fire Department has a 100 + year history of responding to local emergencies when residents and visitors need them the most. This incredible legacy of work and preparedness has historically been powered by a volunteer fire fighting and emergency response technician force.

Out in the Woods
August 19th, 4-10pm

Out in the Woods will be a celebration of joy and community.  We are so excited for this first, annual family friendly event-join us! Be sure to check out the Occidental Pride website for events throughout the entire year. Every day is Pride Day!

Occidental Holiday Weekend
December 9th & 10th, 2023
The Holiday Crafts Faire highlights over 35 local and regional artists, and features our traditional bucket raffle, fabulous food, and baked goods  provided by locals and students from Salmon Creek School.  
​We welcome you to come and participate in the activities, take a stroll through town, and visit the local merchants and businesses, and carol with the locals through town as they sing and parade their way to the annual tree lighting in front of the Bohemian Market. This is truly a holiday event that is not to be missed.  Proceeds from this annual fundraiser are returned to the community through programs funded by the Occidental Community Council, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization supporting local needs.

Old Grove of the Redwoods
17599 Fitzpatrick Lane, Occidental CA, 95465
LandPaths' beautiful Grove of Old Trees is open for walking and picnicking any day of the year. In fact, the Grove is the only privately-owned preserve in Sonoma County that is publicly accessible and free to all. Enjoy the beauty and grandeur of these 33 acres of old growth redwoods on easy trails, some suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. Daily dawn to dusk.

Occidental Community Center is a public tennis/pickleball  facility situated at 3725 Main St, Occidental, CA 95465. There are 2 public courts at this location. ​

Wine Tasting

Boheme Wines
Bohème was founded in 2004 with the mission to produce fine wines from the Coast Range of Occidental, California. We farm all of our vines by hand, then ferment & age our wines at a private facility in Sebastopol, California. Tastings are conducted by appointment at our tasting room in Occidental, California.

Laurence Glass Works features fine art: almost all of it local, and quite a bit of it made by the store owner herself, Laurence. 

The Gallery at Occidental Center for the Arts
With up to eight shows a year, they provide local artists the opportunity to showcase their work to the community with themes ranging from figure drawing to botanical appreciation to ocean themes, just to name a few. Be sure to check out our invitations to artists and upcoming shows.

The gallery is open on Saturdays and Sundays 12-4pm, and during intermission at OCA events. You can request a private viewing HERE.

CLAYFOLK studio offers a space to create, center, and connect.  Our studio welcomes people of all race, gender, ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation.

The Occidental Center for the Arts

Occidental Center for the Arts (a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization) provides diverse, high-quality arts and cultural events for west Sonoma County and our neighboring communities. Housed in a newly remodeled performing venue with superb acoustics and an adjacent exhibition gallery, OCA works to enrich the lives of local residents through diverse cultural performances, exhibitions, events and classes that inspire, educate and entertain.

Volunteer

Occidental Arts & Ecology Center
Garden Volunteer Day Wednesdays 10am-4:30pm
Walk-ins are always welcome – just show up! AND we kindly encourage you to RSVP by clicking here (especially for groups of 4 or more – this helps us plan for lunch). Come for part or all of the day – we are happy to have your helping hands for as long as you can participate.
We serve a homemade garden-based vegetarian lunch for those who come to volunteer for at least 3 hours. We will take a break at 12:30 to eat.

If you want to get involved more in the community there are many opportunities.
The Occidental Community Council meets on the third Saturday at 10:30am each month at the Community Center. Come help us plan our annual fundraiser and spend the proceeds on worthy projects.

The Occidental Community Choir has try-outs every year.

The OAEC - Occidental Arts and Ecology Center - offers Volunteer Days on Wednesdays if you want to play in a beautiful garden.

The OCSD - Occidental Community Services District - hold public meetings regarding the local water service and fire department on the third Tuesday each month.
